市内の国立博物館までジョギングしたらちょうど良い距離だな、と思って、ちょっと気になっていた特別展を観に博物館まで走って行ってきました。
It's such a good thing that there is a National Museum in some jogging distance. I went there for temporary exhibition: The world of Anthony Browne.
絵本画家Anthony Browneの世界展。イギリスはシェフィールドの生まれだそうな。大好きだったのに急に無くなってしまった実父への愛情と悲しみ、自分を元に作ったお猿のキャラクター、先走る好奇心を抱えたこどもたちへの優しいまなざし、本当にとっても素敵な絵がいっぱい。イギリス人らしいユーモアも溢れていて、見ただけでぶふっ軽く吹き出しちゃうものも。博物館の特別展の紹介文には彼の絵は絵本の言葉よりも能弁に語るほど、という一節がありましたが、本当にそのとおりでした。
He really is a genius artist. National Museum describes his art work 'tells more of the stories than the words', and it's very true. His art works tells his love and sad feeling for his late dad, love and tenderness for animals, and children who are full of curiosity.
「優しくてもの凄くつよくて、まるでゴリラみたい」なお父さんを描いたもの、時々暗色系で描かれます。それはAnthony Browneの父親が亡くなったあと、悲しくて恋しくて、同時に急にそうして居なくなってしまったことに腹も立って、その感情が現れたものだからなのだとか。
展示を見たあと、ミュージアムショップでAnthony Brwoneが手がけた絵本を見ていたのですが、一人寂しく悲しいゴリラに飼育員たちが友達として猫を与え、二匹があるトラブルを乗り越えていつまでも仲良く暮らすという話、その場で泣き出すかと思った。。
冒頭の、知能の高さゆえにサインランゲージを教えられ、何もかも不足ない部屋を与えられ、それでも「彼は悲しかった」というときのゴリラの目。猫と友達になって「何をするのも一緒」とにこにこ目を細める２匹の表情。もーなんだよー反則みたい！w
After I looked through the exhibition, popped in the museum shop as well to see some of his books. One of the books, 'Little beauty' particularly dear to me. The gorilla's eyes with deep sadness...the huge smile of the gorilla and his dear friend, 'beauty'...oh Anthony Browne, you meant to make me cry, didn't you!?
Anthony Browneの絵にすっかりノックアウトされながら、この間、ほぼ日手帳で「大切な人にいちばん効く薬は居薬、ただそばにいること」というような文章を同時に思い出して、やっぱり一緒に居るっていいな、ともう一度思い直していました。この本、すごーく欲しかったんだけど、なにしろジョギングして来てたので、コインがちょびっと入った小銭入れしか持ってなかった！(帰りにスーパーよって果物買って帰るだけの予定だったの。。。w)
While reading the book, I was also reminded someone's words; the best medicine for your dearest people, is just to stay with them. It's really is the best, indeed. The story told me the same thing in different way. I wanted to buy the book but I had only a coin case to buy some fruits on my way back home! I'll buy the book when I go and see the exhibition with my husband. It's pleasure to see, I assure you and totally recommend to go if you are around Cardiff sometime soon.
とっても素敵な展示だったので、今度はイアンちゃんといっしょにもう一度いって、そのときにこの絵本も買おうと思います。
